About the Workshop
In this immersive workshop, you will learn the art of hand-building with delicate porcelain clay to create your own custom-designed tealight holder. Inspired by the exquisite textures and techniques seen in the example image, this class focuses on combining sculptural detail with functional design.
Guided by Emma, you will master the techniques needed to create these ethereal, lace-like forms.
What You Will Learn & Create
Slab Construction: You will start by learning how to roll and shape porcelain slabs into cylindrical forms.
Textile & Lace Impressing: We will use various fabrics, doilies, and carved stamps to press intricate, raised patterns directly into the soft clay, creating rich textures.
Piercing (Latticework): Learn the careful technique of punching precise holes through the clay body. When fired, these holes create beautiful light-and-shadow patterns.
Adding Colour & Underglaze: We will explore adding subtle colour accents to the textured elements, such as soft rims and floral appliques.
Incense Adaptations: We will discuss how to alter the cylindrical form to incorporate a small, stable base with a precision-drilled hole perfectly sized to hold a standard incense stick.
Functional Finishes: Learn how to refine the rims and bases for a polished, professional look.
